Cosplay festivals in Ukraine: from Kyiv to Lviv16 April 2018
The development of the cosplay culture in Ukraine has resulted in more annual festivals, as well as growth of the number of participants. In which cities do the native lovers of transformation feel most comfortable?
The most famous events for cosplayers in the post-Soviet countries were previously Russian events, but now the culture is developing in Ukraine as well. Big cities and regional centers take the lead.
Every cosplay festival in Ukraine gathers audiences from different regions of the country. Participants share their experience, give advice, present costumes and new achievements. With every new event, more and more people are attracted to the movement of cosplay and costumes lovers. This is due to a more qualitative level of organization of the events, as well as the popularization of geek culture on the Internet.
The capital city hosts most of the events for those who like transformation: these are three large events. WEGAME, the cosplay festival in Kyiv, is among them. This year, it will be held for the fourth time, gathering both e-sports fans and cosplayers of different directions and genres – from anime to video games.
Unlike other Kyiv cosplay festivals, the event has an impressive prize fund – 15 000 UAH for the best costumes and characters in three categories.
It was too early to talk few years ago about an abundance of interesting events for Ukrainian cosplayers: the oldest cosplay festival that takes place in the capital, in fact, is only 10 years old. But it already has quite a few young competitors: these are events that take place in Dnipro and Zaporizhia, as well as the all-Ukrainian convention in Zhytomyr.
Quite “young”, but promising events for geeks are held in Odesa in the last couple of years, the one was created for anime cosplayers, the other covers a wider audience.
The cosplay festival of Ukraine, which is held in Lviv, is also very popular. Participants not only from Ukraine, but also from the near abroad come to see the show.
