For the first time, the playoff of the new season qualification in Dota 2 is taking place on September 16-21. The Kuala Lumpur Major starts on November 9 and will gather 16 teams to qualify.

The Kuala Lumpur Major will open season 2019 in Dota 2 by Valve. It will start already in November 2018 in the Malaysian capital. Recently, the details of The International 2019 and changes in the rules were reported. Particularly, DPC canceled direct invitations, and the teams will compete in the qualification for a place in Major.

Peculiarities of closed qualifications

This tournament consists of a group stage and a playoff. The format of all competitions is best of 3. Only 15 teams will be allowed to participate in the tournament after local qualifications (in addition, one team will be shortlisted for a victory in a minor tournament).

The slots are distributed in the following way: the CIS (2), China (3), South America (2), Europe (3), North America (3), Southeastern Asia (2).

Qualifications schedule as on September 20:

  • 05:00 Kyiv time: playoff Asia.
  • 11:00 Kyiv time: playoff Europe.
  • 20:00 Kyiv time: playoff U.S.
  • 05:00 Kyiv time: final Asia.
  • 11:00 Kyiv time: final Europe.
  • 20:00 Kyiv time: final U.S.

Dota 2 dates at The Kuala Lumpur Major 2018

16 best teams will compete in the group stage of The Kuala Lumpur Major. The precise format of these plays remains unknown but there’s no shortage of organizers’ ideas. The Malaysian tournament will start on November 9, 2018, and will last for two days.

The playoff is scheduled for November 11-18. The last three days of the competition will take place on the stage of Axiata Arena.
