The Best Game Developers of 2019: Winners of WEGAME Awards25 April 2019
The WEGAME 5.0 festival featured the high-profile awarding ceremony – WEGAME Awards. This year, the coolest game designers and developers traditionally obtained rewards in seven nominations.
Games developed by major and independent studios were competing for the recent WEGAME award. Projects laying claim to being the best ones included advanced VR solutions, collectible card game, and adventure platform games. Meet winners in seven nominations of WEGAME Awards!
Best PC Game
The winner in this nomination is a puzzle & adventure game called Sayri Adventure. A mix of mind-teaser and team adventures: according to the plot, a single representative of its lineage, Sayri, should learn how to survive and cooperate with local citizens to solve given tasks.
Best Game Design
Empire Patron is a collectible card game by App Tech Innovations. The action takes place in the fantasy world: the character has to find artifacts and successfully fight on the alien planet. Patron has five nations, several levels (arenas), and approximately one hundred cards.
Best Game Art
A cute cat-like creature is the protagonist of the I am Reed mobile puzzle game. The engaging pixel platform game by PXLink is the second part of Reed. Gamers should rescue the world after the large computer reboot and solve elaborated and complex problems at multiple levels.
Best Mobile Game
Aesthetic Battle Simulator is an incredibly authentic reconstruction of the battles of the ancient Greeks with the Order of the Illuminati. Almost… The game offers players to reveal the conspiracy by the reptilians from Nibiru, risk for popcorn, use plasma-firing bananas, homing corn, and so on.
Best VR Game and Audience Awards
TowerHex by TowerHex Games received awards in two nominations by both judges and guests. It is a VR multiplayer allowing gamers to interact with each other and adapt for the special features of the gaming room. This game got the maximum amount of attendees’ votes at the event.
“We submitted an application on the last day at 11:30 a.m., half an hour before the end of admission, and thought that we didn’t fall into the list. It is our first award, as we have launched the game only recently. Such a thing encourages to keep working 200% more,” Andrey Pikuza from TowerHex Games commented on.
Special WeGame Awards
WEGAME 5.0 5.0 organizers also expressed their affections by an individual nomination. They believe that Check the maze! deserves the reward. It is a munchkin VR game developed by the 482.solutions studio.
The destiny of studios and developers in the rest nominations was defined by expert judges, including the best Ukrainian game development representatives:
- Anatoliy Sekachov: Game Designer at Social Quantum;
- Taras Tarasov: CEO at Game Industry Consulting;
- Alexey Uslavtsev: Executive Producer at Devil's Dozen Games;
- Artem Mironovsky: CEO & Founder at Red Beat;
- Roman Martynyuk: CEO at AppMania;
- Alexandr Shvyrlo: Associate Producer at Ubisoft Ukraine;
- Alex Andrusevich: Environment Team Lead at Plarium Kharkiv;
- Denys Voroshylov: Head of Marketing at Devart;
- Vitali Granetski: Game designer and curator of Indie direction at Games Gathering Odessa;
- Sergey Lesiuk: Senior Concept Artist at Wargaming Kyiv.
Vitali Granetski told us how difficult it was to select the worthiest one among nominees: “Participants are quite competent in comparison with a range of the contests that I have monitored over the recent period. Games are high-quality in terms of technical aspects, graphics, and design solutions. It was quite hard to choose, because all the projects were well-deserved: from the amazing platform game, I am Reed, to the cooperative VR offer by TowerHex.”
