We designed mix of CCG and RPG: Dor Ferdman, Empire Patron developer

18 March 2019 We designed mix of CCG and RPG: Dor Ferdman, Empire Patron developer

How familiar are you with computer card games? We know the one combining elements of Hearthstone, Gwent, and MTG Arena: Empire Patron! The game is at the pre-Alpha stage now, but we have found out more about it from developers.

We interviewed Dor Ferdman, the head of App Tech Innovations developing the game. We managed to discover Empire Patron features and release date.

Interviewer: WEGAME

Respondent: Dor Ferdman (D. F.)

WEGAME: Tell us about the App Tech Innovations studio. How long has it been operating? What does it focus on?

D. F.: The studio has been existing for nearly five years. Initially, it focused on the development of mobile apps. Over three years, the studio has been designing games for mobile gadgets, PCs, consoles, and VR headsets.

WEGAME: What games and apps did the studio create earlier?

D.F.: We developed Scamper. Players should pass 100 levels of the labyrinth. Besides, each new level is more complicated than the previous one. The game is available for Android smartphones in the 3D space. Another example is Jumping Box. It is a casual game: a jumping cube running from obstacles.

WEGAME: You are working on the Empire Patron project. What can you say about this game?

D.F.: I started designing it a year and a half ago. The game is a mix of two genres: CCG (collectible card game) and RPG (role-playing game).

Actions take place in the medieval, dark world of fantasy. Players should collect artefacts and conquer creatures populating the planet.

WEGAME: What special features does Empire Patron have? How does it differ from other CCGs?

D.F.: The game’s special feature is levels (arenas). Each of them has a unique characteristic. For example: an arena is changed (its climate, transformation, etc.), depending on cards owned by players.

One of the arenas combines two genres (CCG and MOBA elements): all players have three assaulting buildings and have to destroy opponent’s buildings using minions. Minions appear in a row where the card is placed.

Moreover, the game has small levels where players in third person (character) collect cards and resources to continue the game.

Reaching a certain level, gamers are able to build a city and obtain constructions, which will allow them to earn more resources.

WEGAME: When can we expect a beta version?

D.F.: It will be completed approximately in two quarters.

WEGAME: Is Empire Patron designed only for PCs or for mobile platforms as well?

D.F.: As of today, we are planning PC versions. Perhaps, the game will be ported on mobile devices and consoles.

WEGAME: When are you going to produce the final version? How much work is left until the closing stage?

D.F.: Currently, the studio is raising funds in order to continue the game elaboration. We are going to release the full version in about a year.
