2 women and 2.5 villains in top 10 greatest movie characters26 October 2017
British cinematic periodical Total Film conducted a large-scale survey among their readers to determine whom they consider the greatest movie character of all time. Only truly iconic personalities made it to the top 10, however, some of them being so close on this list can genuinely puzzle you.
- Indiana Jones
- Han Solo
- Ellen Ripley
- James Bond
- Travis Bickle
- Hannibal Lecter
- Princess Leia Organa
As we can see, Harrison Ford has two roles in the top 3. It’s interesting that, at the moment, films are being made about both Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Although in the Solo movie, role of the charming smuggler is played by another actor, while in the fifth film about Indiana, we are going to see Ford himself again.
Last place on the list is also taken by a character from Star Wars universe - Princess Leia aka Leia Organa Solo. In total, there are two female characters in the top 10, and both of them are famous for their heroic deeds in space. The second woman is Ellen Ripley from "Alien", she holds the honorable 4th place between Leia’s husband Han Solo and ladies’ favorite James Bond.
On the 2nd place is the most popular hero from DC Comics universe, Gotham City protector, Batman. It is not surprising that he has such a high position. Even the fact that his main antagonist Joker also made the list is quite natural. While the less obvious villain in this company is a psychiatrist and a serial cannibal killer Hannibal Lecter, who occupies 7th place.
There is one more character, who can be perceived as an antihero. The 6th place is taken by Travis Bickle, main character of the film "Taxi Driver". Some may see his vigilantism as an act of higher justice, others - as a terrible villainy. In any case, the character is iconic and it has been confirmed once again.
