IEM Katowice Major 2019 is the fourteenth major of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Four CIS teams will take part in the tournament and compete for a money prize valued at $1 m and a title of the best player.

ESL will hold CS:GO major after a long-term break: the last time it took place was as far as 2016. The long-awaited Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competition is scheduled for February 14-March 3 in Katowice (Poland). Previously, four tournaments were organized in Bucharest (Romania) and once in Tours (France) and London (the UK).

At the first stage, 16 teams (six from the previous major and ten from the minors) will participate in matches according to the Swiss systems of tournaments. Top eight teams will go to the next round.

IEM Katowice Major 2019 – dates of stages:

  • February 13–17 - The New Challengers Stage.
  • February 20–24 - The New Legends Stage.
  • February 28 – March 3 - The New Champions Stage.

Shortlisting of CS:GO IEM Katowice 2019

On January 26, Asia and Americas Minor Championships came to the end. The finalists were shortlisted for the participation in The New Challengers Stage. It was an intense battle won by Renegades, Grayhound Gaming, NRG Esports, and FURIA Esports.

The winner of the final clash among the lower bracket of Play-In IEM Katowice Major 2019 Stage became Vici Gaming from China. The team defeated North from Denmark. Thus, these eSports guys closed the list of the upcoming Polish major by taking the last slot.

All in all, four teams participated in Play-In Stage. They took the third place at the minors. Two of them became participants of IEM Katowice Major 2019. Russian Winstrike Team became another participant of the upcoming mega tournament. Play-in Championship minor took place on January 27.

Results of all Minor Championship matches defined the participants of the first IEM Katowice CS:GO Major 2019 stage - The New Challengers Stage.

The biggest number of players are from Sweden and Russia (13 members in each), then go France, Brazil, the US (10 members each). There are eight Ukrainians and seven Australians. Kazakhstan and China – six players in each, Denmark and Finland – five in each, four from Canada, three from Germany and the UK each. The rest of the countries represent one or two players. Total number of nationalities at IEM Katowice Major 2019 is 19.

The CIS representatives are members of four teams: Vega Squadron, Team Spirit, Winstrike from Russia as well as AVANGAR from Kazakhstan.

The preliminary list of the Polish major:

  • NiP from Sweden;
  • Fnatic from Sweden;
  • G2 eSports from France;
  • Vega Squadron from Russia;
  • AVANGAR from Kazakhstan;
  • Team Spirit from Russia;
  • Winstrike from Russia;
  • Cloud9 from the US;
  • TyLoo from China;
  • ENCE eSports from Finland;
  • Team Vitality from France;
  • NRG eSports from the US;
  • FURIA eSports from Brazil;
  • Renegades from Australia;
  • Grayhaund from Australia;
  • Vici Gaming from China.

Clashes of the early stage will be held on February 13-17. Only half of the participants will move forward.

Within the fourteenth IEM Katowice Major 2019, there will also be performances of seven DJs with sets between every bo3 match. The final list of musicians remains unknown. Two years ago, it was Dutch DJ Hardwell who played his set on Spodek Arena before the final of IEM Katowice 2017 CS:GO.

At IEM Katowice Major 2019, the teams will compete not only for $1 000 000 but also for eight special statuses allowing to start playing in the main stage of the following major.
